HISTORY

This was the site of the Swan School, which was built in the 1860's and used until was closed in 1897. The Swans were among one of the original families of Fairview Township. Captain Richard Swan was one of the three principal buyers of land along Lake Erie in the Fairview area. He was one of the men who belonged to the Harrisburg and Presque Isle Company, which was organized in Harrisburg in 1796, for the purpose of putting capital towards buying land in the Erie area. George Taylor built his summer home on this site in 1906 and is the building now seen on the property. The Taylor family was one of the original families of Fairview Township, Martin Taylor having settled there in 1813.
